Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Teaching 7th graders about the microscopic world around them is often far more difficult than necessary. It is exceedingly challenging to understand how everything is made up of millions of tinnier parts unless you see it with your own eyes - this is especially hard for middle school students to conceptualize when they need constant visual affirmation in order to believe something truly exists. I want to give my students the opportunity to see and explore the microscopic world around them - an opportunity they have been denied up until now. A set of classroom microscopes will help both my 7th and 8th grade students, as both grade levels require students to learn about cells and other microorganisms. In order to make this hands-on learning a reality, I will need a set of microscopes as well as blank slides. This will allow me to set up labs designed around our content standards, from human body cells to plant cells, my students will be able to finally see the tiny, overlooked world around them. Help my students see the world through their own set of rose colored lenses - brand new microscopes!
