Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Kindergarten students need to role play and work with their hands, not just with a pencil. Sometimes they don't get that opportunity, but in my class they will.
My students attend a school with 100% free lunch, and families are at or below the poverty level.
With all the obstacles in front of them, they have such a strong yearning for knowledge and skills. They come to school everyday ready to experience something new and exciting. New experiences give them the desire to come to school everyday with passion.
My Project
My students will develop their oral language by role playing with a cash register and the Let's go Shopping Grocery set. The Count and Link and Hands-On Counting Tray manipulatives will help my students gain mathematics skills. With the numbered carpet squares my students will be able to build early math skills such as sequencing numbers. The puzzles will help my students improve their spatial awareness and help develop motor skills.
With your generous support, my classroom can become a workshop for developing important basic skills.
Students can have the opportunity to make mistakes and learn from them. Paper and pencil work is important, but in Kindergarten, it is so important to manipulate things, and move things around.
