Help! My Batteries Are Running Out!

My project needs 10 14" Apple iBook batteries to replace worn batteries.

Hello! I am a computer teacher in New York City. Our school has over 1100 students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade. I service approximately 550 kindergarten through second graders, of which 66% of them receive free lunch. Approximately 30% of my students speak English as a second language and about 10% of my students are special needs students. I am in an elementary school in which the majority of my students do not have a computer at home. The only computer time they get is in our school. The computer is a helping tool to help enhance their learning, not just in technology but in reading, math, writing, and many of the other subject areas. The children do many different kinds of projects, such as writing poems, drawing and recreating a scene from a story, and using math, phonics and reading programs to help them with the English language. They even use the internet to learn. My children work with laptops. The laptops are four years old and the batteries are worn out. Unfortunately, they last between 45 minutes to 1.5 hours before needing recharging. I see classes back to back, every 45 minutes. I recharge the batteries during my prep and my lunch, however this is not enough time to fully charge them. When the batteries start to go, the children in the late morning sessions have to share a computer. The afternoon classes sometimes do not get an opportunity to use the computers because the batteries do not last through the end of the day. If I get the batteries, then my children's technology education will be highly enriched because each student will have an equal opportunity to learn and explore. As an example, the children love to use Kid Pix to write a poem or a short story. This program brings their writing to life. The children enjoy learning with the laptops. I think it is very important to the children that our wireless computer lab continue to be used for their education. It is pertinent that the batteries be replaced in order for every child that I service to get their chance to use the computer for their learning. Please help give my children their opportunity. My proposal is asking for ten 14" Apple iBook batteries. Thank you very much.
