My students need 5 robot kits to make learning exciting and relevant.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. S.'s classroom raised $882

My Students
My students do not have computers at home, so the technology learning that they gain occurs mainly at school. Yet we have little technology equipment in our classroom. Instead of learning technology by DOING, my students are told ABOUT technology, which does them little good.
I teach technology at a public high school in Mississippi.
My students are wonderful: while facing many challenges, they come to school ready to learn. Our school struggles financially and is not able to provide resources for interactive technological equipment. My technology program is underfunded; last year I taught with eleven-year old computers! While my computer situation is improving, I'd like to expand my students' knowledge to robots.
My Project
Robots are powerful learning tools. I have observed a number of robotics programs in other schools, and as students' robots swivel and scoot in response to TV remote controls, obeying a program the students have written, their exhilaration is palpable. Their conversations center on their robots, and they unhesitatingly engage with one another to troubleshoot.
Furthermore, robotics reinforces core subject areas in which my students struggle. As students adjust their programs to navigate robots through a maze, they practice measurement and solving for equivalent ratios. Robotics motivates students to master concepts they haven't even been formally taught yet in order to make their robots do cool things. With a robot in hand, students WANT to solve difficult problems.
By participating in relevant, hands-on activities on a daily basis, my students will realize how wonderful learning can feel.
The more exciting and active their learning opportunities are, the brighter the future that education holds for them will seem. Please help give my students an exemplary educational experience.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
