This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

School can be hard, especially when you are five! Demands on kindergarten students are becoming more and more. My students are expected to read by the end of kindergarten, but how can they do that without appropriate materials?

My kindergarten students live in an area where times are tough.

It is not the poorest area, but by no means rich. Therefore, our students cannot afford most things, but we are not poor enough to receive funding from the state. Despite all of this, my students are driving, passionate and ready to learn.

My Project

Many of my students come from homes where there are no books. Some have never even opened one before they come into our school. However, in order to become readers, students need to understand concept of print; something that we often take for granted. They need to know how to hold a book and where to start reading on a page. This kit will help them with this. The next step will be letter recognition which will be practiced using alphabet stamps and dry erase boards.

Times are tough my friends, however, we need to remember who will be taking care of us one day.

I was to give my students every resource I can for them to achieve their dreams and literacy is one of the most important ones.
