My students need the book "Owl Puke", a dissection chart, and 20 owl pellets to have a real world hands-on experience with food chains and food webs.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Cogan's classroom raised $133
This project is fully funded
"Oh, disgusting! This is cool." These phrases are music to my ears from my 5th grade ELL students in my math/science class. My students have limited experiences with these types of science labs.
Having students who have challenges with English, they learn best through "doing." After the excitement and learning gains from a mealworm activity, dissecting owl pellets would give them the opportunity to see 1st hand a part of the food chain and how it relates to a food web. The more confident they are in what they are learning, the more they will interact with students and share their thoughts and questions.
My students need the book Owl Puke, a dissection/food chain chart and owl pellets to get a hands on experience with food chains/webs. This project will benefit my students through actually seeing the animal parts as they dissect their piece. The lesson would be extended to home, as the students would take home their sample and share with parents what they had discovered in class as well as on the school's morning show to share with the rest of school, thus encouraging public speaking and boosting self-esteem.
With this donation, you are helping to create an unforgettable learning experience. You will make it possible for my students to have an experience beyond their environment that will excite them about science and through sharing with parents/other students enhance their English speaking skills.
