Jump in the driver seat with us as we learn about renewable energy solutions as we learn about energy and the transfer of it. Give my students the opportunity to become problem solvers as they learn about renewable energy sources as part of their study of the curriculum.
My students attend a middle school in South Carolina.
Over 75% of the school is on free/reduced lunch. Our town is small and located in a rural area. My students are excited about using technology and thrive when allowed to interact with various technologies to complete tasks. From research to designing models to solve problems, my students love opportunities to be self-directed learners through the use of technology and hands-on labs. The vast majority of my students are kinesthetic/tactile learners and thrive when allowed to learn through the use models. My students are bright and show success in data when standards are taught with a hands-on approach.
My Project
The solar car kit is a wonderful resource for any science classroom. Last year our school purchased this kit which makes 8 cars. My previous students had an absolute blast working in teams to create their solar "race car" equip with color and decorations. However, with only one kit only one class was able to make these cars. This grant will allow me to have teams of four in my five different classes all create a solar race car. Students will be able to have one huge solar car race during their recess. This kit allows students to identify a problem with pollution, design a car using renewable energy, implement, and evaluate using models. Students will become experts in identifying various sources of energy and explain various energy transformations. Students will gather data of race times using stop watches. The will compare data based on various design features by evaluating their peers model. This will allow students to truly understand how scientist research and gather research.
The wheels on this science class are ready to roll but we need your support to make it happen.
By donating to this grant you will allow me to help my students learn the technological design process. Furthermore, you will help students access the resources they need to keep them engaged and consuming knowledge in a way that fits their learning style. Your donation will help us roll into this new year in style.
