I find that there is hardly enough time for science during the day. Our school has a few science videos that go along with our lessons and I tend to play segments of these during snack. The kids LOVE them. As much as I do not like using videos in the place of experiments and books, sometimes it is necessary and it is also an added bonus during snack time.
Growing up, I used to watch "Bill Nye the Science Guy". I remember being captivated by him and everything he said and did. He is off the air now, but I know that he would still have the same effect on children today. He made science fun and interesting. I don't know how often I would do his experiments at home after watching the shows. He made science relate to my life too. That is the exact thing my students need. They need science to connect to their own lives.
I teach second grade and though much of the science we teach and learn is lower level, it is all related to upper level science.
I am asking for the Bill Nye the Science Guy videos. I know there are a lot of videos and they are pretty expensive, but they would be shared with our entire school and used often. I want my students, as well as all of the students in the school, to be able to enjoy a love for science that I got from these videos as a child. Bill Nye is so energetic and uses so many different resources in his videos that he makes learning science fun for every child!
