Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our class emphasizes student voice and social consciousness. In a class where everyone is comfortable taking academic risks and learning from each other, students will understand the power of their individual and collective voice and leverage it using technology.
My school is an inner-city public school in New York.
I work in an ICT classroom which comprises both general and special education students. My students are bright, wonderful, and ready to navigate topics in all subject areas, especially social studies and science, through independent and collaborative research and analysis in our classroom. They are up for any challenge.
My Project
My students will be using Chromebooks, tablets, and Google Apps for Education to conduct research, create interactive multimedia presentations, publish digital writing, and more! Using apps like Google docs and slides, that are collaborative in nature, students will work with each other to dive deep when learning about state geography, Native American cultures, food chains and webs, etc. In working collaboratively using Google Apps for Education, my students will simultaneously be developing their ability to work together as a diverse team, and develop their understanding of how to use technology as a platform for research, publishing, and presentations. Beyond Google Apps, it is my plan for students to engage in blogging as a form of interactive writing, to give and receive feedback from peers and instructors.
The Chromebooks and tablet will add a constant presence of technology that would not otherwise be in the classroom.
My students will grow in their independence as they navigate web quests, provide and receive feedback on a digital platform, and share their work with others in the class, and in our school. Perhaps most importantly, my students will develop a sense of confidence in using technology, and pride in their work, that will develop and cement a lasting love of learning.
