Our students are brilliant knowledge-seekers. They are excited to learn. They ask deep questions. They are playful and hilarious. They are adventurers, visionaries, and risk-takers, and artists. They want Hackers Club. Our school, Voyager PCS in Honolulu, HI is founded upon project-based learning, letting students lead the curriculum as a community of learners. We have a diverse population of students that reflect the local community of Hawaii: 34% Pacific Islander/Asian, 33% Native Hawaiian students and 14% White. Because the Hawaiian Islands are the most isolated, inhabited land mass in the world, our students need culturally responsive teaching techniques that develop their 21st century skills. They need to be ready to engage in a world much bigger than our island home. We believe that demystifying technology for our students will give them the powerful tools necessary to access opportunities for their futures and to feel in control of their lives.
