These are 9th grade students who have the lowest test and math abilities. 75% of the students in my class are on the free or reduced lunch plan at school. Many of them come from a home where higher education is not valued or pursued. This class is called a block class. This means the students are scheduled in my class for 2 class periods back to back. Many of them are also given a block reading class during the day. This means they don't have space in their schedules for elective courses (fun courses).
