These materials will go a long way in promoting my students learning. Being a first-year teacher, I want to have as much of an impact as possible on my students. Having just finished my Physical Education certification I have learned how important the design of my gym is and how it can impact and inspire student learning. Last year I was a long term leave replacement for the Physical Education teacher at another school. The teacher I was covering had these posters throughout the gym and I noticed that it really engaged the students, they were interested in the topics covered by the posters. I would notice groups of three or four students looking at various posters and discussing what they mean. After noticing this I implemented a “question of the day” in PE class. After students completed 5 minutes of aerobic activity (which has been showing to improve focus, learning, and executive function) I would have students sit in their floor spots and ask them the question of the day, these were largely based off of the posters that they had shown interest in. I found this to be extremely beneficial to those students, by understanding these concepts they were able to comprehend the importance of Physical Education and in turn try a little harder in class. I would like to do this same practice with my current students. As an elementary school Physical Education teacher, one of the best things I can do for my students is to promote interest, curiously, and understanding of concepts within Physical Education in hopes that this will, follow them into the middle, and high school to promote physical activity. Thank you!
