My students have different sensory needs. My active students need quiet sensory tools that will provide the sensory input they need to focus without distracting others. The Bouncy Chair Bands and Wobble Cushions will give my students an outlet for quiet movement while sitting in their desk. The fidget items will give my students an outlet for moving their hands quietly (no more tapping pencils!). For my students who have autism, appropriate sensory tools can help reduce their “fight or flight” response and provide the calm they need to feel comfortable. The Weighted Blanket and Shoulder Snake will provide deep pressure touch stimulation to naturally feel calm. The Bean Bag will also provide a comfortable place to sit while trying to find a sense of calm. The Sand Timer will help promote self-regulation with sensory breaks. With appropriate tools, my students can get their sensory needs met, maximizing their energy directed toward learning. My students deserve special sensory tools they need to experience success in school. I believe that every student can learn and has a meaningful purpose in life. My goal as a teacher is to consider the elements of the whole individual, learn from my students, and foster a love for learning. With tools to support their sensory needs, my students will have a positive learning experience that will forever impact their journey of lifelong learning and personal growth.
