I want to give students the opportunity to really grow their conceptual understanding through interaction with the classroom itself. Learning English can be extremely difficult, so I want to help my students grow their conceptual vocabulary and language through using an interactive science word wall. A normal word wall typically displays a word and definition. The purpose of an interactive word wall is to allow students to make connections between content and their own life while also comparing topics we have covered during the year. Students work together to create items that get posted on our classroom walls. I hope by students using sentence strips, printed pictures from the Samsung color printer, and clay that the students are able to form a deeper understanding of science topics. They will be able to do this by making connections across topics, creating small models, matching vocabulary and pictures, and adding their own thoughts to better understand the material. An interactive word wall will not only just be helpful for my ELL students, but to every student in my classroom.
