Each school day students spend up to 6 hours inside of their classrooms. Why not make this space as comfortable, engaging, and inspiring as possible? What better way to do this than by pulling students in and letting them design the space that will best meet their needs? My students started the school year by researching classroom designs, analyzing different seating options, and writing about their dream classrooms. They interviewed others students, read articles, and had an ergonomics expert, Kristy Schultz, visit the classroom. They determined that a classroom with "flexible seating" would best need their needs. Once all students presented their ideas, a cohesive vision emerged. Students learned to use design software and shopped for products online. They also hired their art teacher to paint a rending of their final classroom design. The first phase of their classroom design is in progress. We have purchased a large sit/stand desk, adjustable height stools, a couch, and a rug. Students are working on sanding and painting two classroom tables. Please help them to complete their project with these final items!
