Encouraging students to develop lifelong reading habits and the love of reading requires putting books into the hands of the children. I have a very small budget to provide books for our students so we desperately need funding to supply children with great books! Last year, I began the book clubs and had great success, but I ran out of money and was not able to finish the year. The first and second grade book club had 35 students each month (we had a total of 80 children for those two grades so that is almost half of the students). My book club for third and fourth grade had 15 students from a total of 75 students. The fifth and sixth grade book club had 10 students of the 90 students in our school. Our principal supported the program and encouraged me to continue this fall. Without funding, we will not be able to continue the clubs. I personally spent $600.00 to fund the clubs. The first through fifth grade students have already begged me to continue the clubs next year. They love meeting during recess once a month and reading out loud as well as the related projects. Please help us continue this program by funding my project.
