Organization seems simple enough. It is just pens, pencils, folders, paper, and binders. The systems are not rocket-science. It is just calendars, homeworker trackers, and and some color-coding. The costs of being disorganized are dramatic. Missed homework, incomplete study guides, illogical notes, missed field trips due to lost permission slips, and lost points due to ripped assignments. Not to mention, stress as student anxiously dig through messy backpacks. The practice of organization is far from simple. For some of us, organization is natural. For many students that I teach- students with disabilities - organization is a skill that must be actively taught. Your generous donation provides students with the necessary materials to get and KEEP 20 students organized. Through direct instruction, I will use these supplies to teach my students how to properly use daily calendars, homework trackers, and folders/binders. Students will use folders, binders, dividers, and loose leaf paper to keep all notes and classwork together by subject. They will use folders to ensure the safety their homework and handouts. In order to leverage my student's learning style, colorful post-its and highlighters will be used to support the maintenance and implementation of helping my students get organized. Labels, markers, and pens allow students to personalize and take ownership over the system. Magnets and class-calendars will allow students to organize our classroom. This support the generalization and retention of these skills. Without your generous donation, my students won't have these necessary supplies to start the school year in the right way. This project could be the difference between a student being confident and prepared and another school year of nervousness and missing homework.
