Our little school has very little technology. There are so many ways these Chromebooks with headphones will benefit my students. I have 1st and 2nd grade students who are mostly non-verbal and have fine motor challenges. Handwriting is not an option for them. But they are learning their letters and learning some words and have lots of stories to tell. Chromebooks with keyboards open up a new world to them. They can press the letters on the keyboard instead of having someone write for them. Independence! I have 4th and 5th graders who get so discouraged because they don't know how to spell words correctly. Their writing can be difficult to read. With Chromebooks, they can use word prediction and all of the sudden, they just need to select words. Now their stories can come to life. I have 6th and 7th graders who have made great gains in writing but are working on their editing and revision skills. Chromebooks and shared docs in google allow me to view and interact with students and their writing pieces. I can guide them through the editing process from my computer allowing them to be more independent and empowered. I am so excited to give my students the opportunity, through technology, to express their creativity and share their stories and feel success!
