Students choice is a huge motivator for learning. If children do not have choice they lose interest. Movement has been known to help boost the learning process. Flexible seating helps the students to not be so rigid. They can learn in a friendly and inviting environment. Flexible seating provides students with the chance/opportunity to move and stay on task. Flexible seating helps create a more comfortable learning environment that helps them become life long learners. Students can decide where they will work for the day and then they can switch places based on the required task. This gives students ownership and feel more invested in their own education. Even as adults in a learning environment or meeting, we tend to gravitate to where we can be most comfortable and less distracted. Students can use these different types of seating to get comfortable in their learning. There are several different types of seating choices they can choose from. They help students learn in an environment that isn't rigid. At home there are always places they do work that can help motivate attention levels. The seating that I have selected gives a variety of options throughout the day for special needs. Some are rockers, or padding for floors. There are camp chairs and even hedge balls that are textured. Each is chosen for a specific reason or from a past experience that could have helped certain students become more involved. I want my students to be able to live up to the potential, we as educators, believe they can live up to. I tend to have higher expectations than they do because they have often been told they can't do something. By giving them choice and ownership they can do this more often.
