My students need access to shared duo-scope microscopes. This will allow our middle school science program to engage our students beyond just the macroscopic world!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
More than 85% of my students are eligible for free or reduced-price lunches, and 70% of them are English learners, as well. Though most of my students will be the first in their family to attend college, they already have plans to be all sorts of scientists and engineers 12 years from now.
These STEM students are hard-working kids who believe that the harder they work, the more their brains grow.
They love challenges and every opportunity to find a new and different way of solving a problem.
My Project
My students need shared access to duo-scope microscopes to allow them to better engage with scientific material that operates on a microscopic scale.
Access to microscopes would support educational equity in our community by allowing my students the opportunity to engage in a rigorous curriculum with the support of scientific instruments and technology.
Access to shared microscopes will allow my seventh-grade students to engage closely with our NGSS aligned curriculum learning about geosciences and ecosystems. Magnification will allow my students to differentiate between the microscopic properties of different types of rocks, and to observe the ecological interactions of species in microbiomes.
Exposure to the magnified world around us will provide an excellent opportunity for students to participate in engaging lessons and projects. Learning the basic technical skills associated with using microscopes in middle school will successfully prepare my students for their high school careers and onward.
