Preschool children are naturally curious about the world around them. The science center plays a vital role in understanding our world. At this center children learn that things grow and change, that some things can float while others sink, and that some things are magnetic like paperclips but not rocks.
I am a Head Start preschool teacher.
In my classroom, I have are both typically developing students and students with special needs. All of my students receive free meals. I have 34 young 3 and 4 year olds that are very excited to learn. Most of my students have limited exposure to children's stories, nursery rhymes, shapes, colors, numbers, and letters. We love to read, sing, dance, paint and learn about the world around us. For most of my students this is their first experience with school.
My Project
Having these materials will allow my children to see, feel, and discuss different science concepts. They will be able to see up close the changes that caterpillars make as they grow. We will be able to talk about what is happening, make predictions about what may happen next, write and draw about what we see in our science notebooks, and become more aware of the world around us.
With the Zoomy Cam we will be able to see things magnified 50 times on our interactive white board. It will be a wonderful way to make observations. These supplies will help to integrate science vocabulary into their lives in a fun way.
Your generous support of this project will allow my preschoolers to observe and discuss the growth and development of caterpillars and will ensure that my students learn new vocabulary and are able to master science concepts in a fun and hands-on way.
These live caterpillars will allow them to practice observing real animals, record data, make predictions, and learn about animals in a fun and novel way.
