I work as a Reading Interventionist for a small charter school in the rural Northwest corner of Connecticut. My kids are a great bunch of young adults who have not had a history of success in their previous academic settings. They count on me to help them to have a new academic experience, and a fresh start.
All of my students come to me with a variety of literacy needs, but also with a desire to improve their reading and writing abilities.
They know that reading is a key part of their future prospects.
My students are some of the bravest young people that I know. They acknowledge and accept that they have disabilities, but they have also learned to refuse to accept that a disability will prohibit them from being what ever it is that they want to be. I am so proud of them and I am honored to have the opportunity to help them to prepare for life after high school.
My Project
These days I am teaching my students using technology, as many of us are in the wake of our school closures, but I am not going to be able to do this without proper technology. Sadly, my current laptop is on its last leg. It is ridiculously slow and the camera is dead. I cannot Zoom with my students and have them see my face, which is so important for students like mine. I simply cannot engage with them as I need to and cannot create any learning videos for them without a new laptop. Not having access to this technology is putting me and my students at a disadvantage and doing them a disservice.
Please help me to provide my students with the opportunities that they need by helping me to get a new, up to date laptop.
With a new laptop I can create and use all of the literacy resources available on-line, as well as have a way to access tools like Zoom in order to stay in contact with my students.
