Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a New Jersey public preschool servicing children between the ages of 3 and 5 yrs old. Our school is a dual language school (English/Spanish). I teach children from various backgrounds and walks of life making my classroom a reflection of the surrounding community. Many students in my class are ELL speaking a language other than English at home a new language. As a result, having limited basic language makes teaching and learning more challenging.
I expose my students to quality books read alouds and activities in my classroom and I would like to continue providing learning experiences at home as well.
They take pride in what they learn and accomplish both at school and at home. Often time our families have low or limited income and lack the resources to read quality books and provide activities to support learning specially now when they are confined at home in shelter-in-place. My children enjoy reading and learning new things and sharing with their families all the exciting experiences they encounter each day. Social distancing is hindering their ability to learn and this project will help me interact and stay a little closer to my students during distance learning.
My Project
The materials I’m requesting in this project will help me teach my students virtually, easily present and explain concepts live, read stories and show the images on the book, and help expand their oral language skills. During this time of social distancing I will be able to seamlessly continue providing quality education to my students virtually.
The document camera will help me create videos of me reading children's books and share the readings online through our school communication platform for students and parents.
Through the use of the materials that I’m requesting in this project I will be able to stay connected to my students and their families, share lessons, record readings, tell stories and create virtual group activities while they're home. I will be able to maintain a closer communication and contact with my students and their families.
