Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our first grade students are amazing! We have four first grade classrooms, two inclusion classrooms, one SEI (Sheltered English Immersion) and one general education classroom. We have 80 students from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and learning needs.
Our kiddos are smart, funny, sweet, and love learning!
They especially love learning about: Animals! Our students have spent the past eight weeks creating Animal Reports in writing, identifying non-fiction text features in Animal books, and learning about different types of organisms in science. Our school is an Innovation school located in Boston, MA.
My Project
The first-grade team consists of four educators, 2 paraprofessionals and 80 students from many diverse cultural and learning backgrounds. This year we will be studying animals during both ELA and writing. We have just completed writing our All About Animals books and the students loved learning about an animal of their choice! In science, we have been studying living things and organisms.
We feel that a trip to the Franklin Park Zoo would be a great way to tie in all of the concepts we have learned surrounding animals this year!
The Zoo is too far for us to walk to or take public transportation. However, we feel that the education and tour provided by the Zoo will be a great learning experience for our kiddos. This is why we are asking for two buses for our trip.
