My Students

My students have been working hard to prepare for their reading and math assessments in the spring. We haven't had a lot of time to spend on "fun" activities, especially those that tie in with our science program. These students need an exciting educational experience that will enrich their lives.

My students are 9 to 11 years old.

They are in a regular education classroom and live in a lower socioeconomic area compared to the surrounding suburbs in upstate New York. My students have a real yearning for investigating and learning about new things, but they are not afforded the opportunities to do so. Our school is comprised of about 400 4th and 5th graders. Everyone works together to do what is best for our "family" at school.

My Project

My students need admission fees to the zoo and the cost of 2 educational programs. They will be able to use this trip to enhance their science unit through a thematic, hands-on, interactive tour experience. They will be able to examine various animal families to look for inherited and acquired traits as well as their survival adaptations. Students will also investigate biodiversity and learn how animals help their environments thrive.

Donations to make this field trip possible will improve my students' ability to understand and apply scientific inquiry, concepts, and vocabulary.

They will be able to apply the scientific method to enhance their future learning.
