Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Students have changed over the years. School has changed with them. Educators are not only teaching academics but being trained in physical restraint and behavior management techniques. Some of my students are coming to school with mental health and trauma induced needs. As a school counselor, I advocate for the needs of my students. Teaching students self regulating behavior techniques has become a counseling focus. My students are fighting to survive physically, mentally and emotionally. I need your help to provide comprehensive school counseling services.

My Project

Zones of Regulation is a cognitive behavioral approach curriculum used to teach self-regulation to students with severe emotional outburst and behaviors. Small group lessons will help students learn the curriculum and printed manipulatives from card stock will allow students to have a reference when returning to class. Ink is needed for printing and thick laminating pages for reusing worksheets. Laminated copies are needed for continuous weekly use. School budget only allows 500 copies per month. I work in an elementary school of 500 students, some being multiple aggressive offenders. Lamination will ease copy use while providing my students with resources needed to be successful within this curriculum.
