My Students
Nearly 95% of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch, and many of my students experience challenges from living in a high-poverty community. However, my 21st-century students will have their basic needs met.
For my students, opting out is not an option.
They are always putting forth their best. The student population is very diverse. For instance, they all have different learning styles and interests, and some students are from outside of the U.S. They have a variety of experiences to contribute to the school and classroom community, and it is necessary to have the appropriate materials and items to meet the needs of every unique student.
My Project
This project will make a difference in my students' learning because it will motivate them to read during independent reading. Many of my students have very little interest in reading. For some, it is challenging to find an interesting book, and for others, they are still building skills and confidence to read independently.
However, if the classroom library is inviting and comfortable, the students will have more of a desire to read individually and with others.
These items allow the students to arrange seating in ways that are great for student-led book discussions and collaboration, and students would feel that the independent reading station is more like an incentive than a station that they must complete.
