Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am currently finishing the year at one school and I am moving to my new school for the 2018-2019 school year. Both schools are Title I.

My students are energetic, enthusiastic and motivated learners.

My pupils have a unique variety of abilities, interests, and learning styles. In kindergarten, it is developmentally appropriate to have lessons where the kids have opportunities to interact hands-on and creatively. In kindergarten, we must focus on rigorous academics, free play, creativity, and developing fine and gross motor skills.

My Project

I love incorporating "Zero The Hero" in my math curriculum. For the first 100 days of school I count the days with my children. We put a popsicle stick in a cup labeled "ones". This represents the ones place. We go over the number that day. Every 10 days we have a little celebration as we move and bundle the popsicle sticks to the "tens cup". The tens cup represents the tens place. This leaves 0 in the ones cup. We celebrate by singing a count by 10s song, doing a special math page that goes over a variety of number concepts, and "Zero The Hero" magically surprises them with a zero shaped surprise. Hence, this project. I am requesting bubbles, rings, balls, water bottles, slap bracelets, putty, and sunglasses. The frisbee and water bottle can be incorporated into an art project. This is a prize the children can decorate with special pens. On the 100th day of school "Zero The Hero" will surprise the little ones with capes (just like him or her). This makes math magical, exciting, and motivating. Zero the Hero math helps teach children counting, numbers, place value, money concepts, and much more! This concept integrates math, stem, and art. Numbers are the foundation of so many of these concepts.

Thank you for taking the time to support my classroom and public schools!
