Help me give my students a Zen Zone. A place where we can implement mindfulness techniques, allow them to explore sensory objects, and find a calm and comfortable atmosphere to deal with the trauma they're experiencing.
We are a school of approximately 215 students, PreK-5, who deal with the struggles of poverty and the opioid crisis. We are located in a rural area, the majority of the students ride buses to school. We have been 100% free lunch and breakfast county wide for many years. Our students strive to do their best in academic areas. Our students are taught to be tech savvy and love to apply technology to their own learning styles. We focus on hands on learning with growth in mind.
We are proud of how our students are willing to share and help each other do and be their very best.
In turn, we need to do our best to help them every day feel comfortable, and safe in a world that is sometimes against them.

We will use our Zen Zone to teach techniques to help deal with trauma, in order to get them back into the classroom to be successful.
Sensory integration is important to the process of healthy development and success in behavior and school. Our trauma informed teachers need a place and materials to use to help students work through what is stopping them from being successful in the classroom.
