My Students
I support a classroom of students in Petersburg City Public schools who are in a Title 1 campus. About 80% of the students are boys and unfortunately the pandemic is posing additional challenges for learning. Being virtual and now navigating this new "normal" has taken its toll on their behavior and social emotional efficacy. As a result, stress and negative stress behaviors are a major factor impeding their learning and development.
My Project
These materials will be provided in an area in the classroom where students can go to to work out their frustrations. It will provide a calming place for them to think and modify behaviors so that they can be prepared to learn. The lesson to be taught is self-behavior management and techniques to recover from classroom behavior challenges. It will also be used as a place to reward students who do exhibit appropriate classroom behaviors as an additional incentive for continued citizenship and cooperation. The goal is to have a place where students can self-monitor in a secure environment.
