My Students

My students truly are artists. They take two classes a day with me all four years of high school, and they learn the importance of art in society. My students are primarily students of color, and some travel from very far away in the city to come to school each day.

They see the studio as a place they will belong, a place they can come and express themselves without fear of judgement- they have a place to be themselves.

My Project

My students need yoga mats for their wellness unit and to start the day. Because living and growing up in Chicago can be challenging, many students come to school with considerable stress on their shoulders. I know that yoga will help them de-stress.

I want my studio to be a place the kids deserve.

I'm hoping to open my studio doors before school to allow students in for a quick 20-30 minute yoga class. This will help them focus and de-escalate their stress levels before the day begins. This has been proven to lower discipline issues in schools, and I'm hoping to open the studio up to the whole school in case other students want to try yoga.
