My students need a hefty collection of books for our class library to choose from during independent reading time each day.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The nearest book store in my students' community is on the other side of town. Help provide them with resources to help boost their reading lexiles and thus help them perform better on their common assessments.
My students come from a densely populated area in Texas, where many of their parents don't speak English at home and are frequently working more than one job to support their families.
Our school is a charter organization founded on the idea that students from the "wrong zipcode" deserve and can achieve a college education despite their circumstances.
My Project
With a class library, my students will have more options to choose from during their independent reading time. Many of them are English Language Learners and/or struggle with their reading and writing. The best way to do better with a new language is constant exposure -- reading, writing, and speaking. This class library will help fulfill the first two and provide them the practice so many of them need to succeed.
As an English teacher, what good am I to my students if I cannot point to a new book and say, "Here, I think this will help explain what I'm trying to say better"?
My students deserve the world, and the least I can do is provide them with books that can show them they are not the only feeling the way they're feeling at this awkward time period of their lives.
