My students need a document camera to be able to see and read along with me a variety of texts daily. We call this our shared reading time and it is an integral part of our literacy program along with floor cushions for flexible seating.
I have the joy of working with seven and eight year olds in a suburban community school. Our population is going through dramatic changes and we have had a large increase in at-risk populations. This includes students who are homeless, economically disadvantaged, and/or who are learning English as a second language.
Our school prides itself on being an integral part of the community.
We believe each child is able to have a positive impact on society and that our purpose is to provide each one with the tools and skills to reach their full potential. Each person, whether a student, parent, or staff member, is valued and appreciated.
My Project
A great mobile document camera will allow my students to participate in a variety of classroom activities, especially during shared reading, shared writing, and math! Often times the students are on the floor, and some prefer to have a cushion to sit on.
The combination of the cushions and the document camera will allow every student to be able to see and participate in many more activities and with greater ease.
Being a part of an activity, and seeing clearly what someone is doing, is a great way to expand on our classroom learning. Currently, if we want to all see something we have to crowd around it on the floor, and with a book or other small items, this simply doesn't work. These items will easily solve that issue.
