My students have an opportunity to have a memorable learning experience and solidify their learning and see the real world relevance of Common Core standards such as why it's important to have evidence and reasoning to back up their claims. The video cameras will be key in creating videos.
My 8th graders are a diverse group of students including students who are Cape Verdean, Black including African American and Caribbean, Latino and White.
We are a full inclusion school which means students with disabilities are fully included in the classroom. Our school in Massachusetts is a turnaround school, which has made gains in the last year.
My Project
Students will embark on a project where they will choose an issue in our community and go out into the community and complete surveys, analyze data, create reports and presentations and then have the opportunity to create a multimedia presentation that they will present to decision makers in our community. The video cameras will allow students to go out into the community and film video that they can use in their iMovies to convince and persuade decision makers of their claims. They will learn how important it truly is to have evidence and reasoning to back up their claims.
Your donation will allow students to walk away from this year with an experience that will help them to see how they can make change in our community and that change is possible.
The camcorders will allow us to create higher quality videos with footage from our community and allow us to do and include interviews.
