Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The sixth grade students in my computer class are very bright, curious, and highly energetic children. They have a real hunger for knowledge. They are very enthusiastic about learning the history of the stock market and how it works.

They are currently enjoying playing The Stock Market game, managing portfolios and learning about the history of the stock market.

It is amazing to hear such rich discussion from such young sixth grade children! The excitement and reaction when they make money is captivating.

We are a Title I school in a low-income neighborhood. It is a financial struggle for many of our students to go on costly trips. Our students would appreciate the opportunity to be able to visit and participate in a guided tour of The New York Stock Exchange on Wall Street. It would be an experience that would have a long-lasting impact on their education and development.

My Project

My sixth grade students have been playing The Stock Market game, managing portfolios and learning about the history of the stock market. Through The Stock Market Game, they are gaining a fundamental understanding of investing and how they might get their money to work for them. They are researching and making educated decisions on their stock purchases. They are also learning how current events affect the market. This simulation also puts them in a real-world situation where they practice the content and skills they're taught in math, English Language Arts, economics, social studies, and other school subjects. Most importantly, The Stock Market Game helps them develop positive money habits and prepares them for their future.

My students would love to go on a tour of Wall Street where they will be guided by Wall Street insiders!

This will help tie in everything they are learning about the Stock Market in class. Not all learning occurs most effectively within the classroom walls. On the tour they will: learn about the 400 years of history that led to modern Wall Street from the Dutch trading outpost to the humble beginnings of the NYSE to the current financial markets with a tour guide. See where high-powered meetings take place, where billion dollar deals are negotiated, and where the fate of our economy is determined.Get a glimpse of where the "captains of industry" and Wall Street's "master of the universe" live and work.Be inspired by how some of the biggest US financial institutions were built by immigrants and their entrepreneurial spirit. Discover the Financial District's rich history, architecture and trivia. See the skyscraper race within the concrete jungle. Explore the beginnings of the Big Apple. Stand on the steps near where George Washington was inaugurated as president.
