Our school serves over 900 students in grades K-8 who live in a historic area of the city. Our staff consists of teachers who are dedicated to instilling our motto of "Si se puede" (Yes, we can) in all students.
Music is new to our school and students are excited about the variety of musical opportunities being provided to them.
This is the second year of having a music education program which promotes creativity, teamwork, cooperation, and social-emotional development.
Offering creative outlets provides balance to all ages - at home, work and in the community. Music education has a tremendous impact on students' academic, social and emotional well-being. Students' music experiences remain with them as adults and truly enriches their lives.
My Project
Students across the nation are using technology daily in the classroom and at home. Some of our students only have access to instructional technology at school and one of my goals is to maximize its effectiveness in the music classroom. Piano Maestro, Staff Wars, Incredibox and Garage Band are current programs that keep our students engaged in the music making process.
Gamification is increasing in classrooms, and Yousician is an app that provides a fun and engaging way for students to learn how to play the instruments we have in our classroom.
Our middle school students' technical and literacy skills have greatly increased since using Yousician with our ukuleles and guitars this past year. We started a before school piano program, which we plan to continue to use next year. Yousician will be used to support our program as well.
Please support us as Yousician helps us become Musicians.
