My Project

I teach at a Title I school where 100% of the student body qualifies for free and reduced-price lunch. I am working to build a thriving drama and theatre program. My students love theatre!

Prior to Covid 19, we performed plays and musicals after school for family, friends, and community members.

It has been a joy to bring theatre to students who otherwise would not have access to it outside the classroom.

Covid-19 has not allowed us to perform for the past two years. Our 2020 musical was cancelled on March 13, and we lost thousands of dollars on costumes, props and set pieces we were unable to use or return. We receive no funding. Everything comes from tickets sales from previous shows. We haven't been able to do any shows, so we have no budget as we prepare for our spring musical, You're a Good Man Charlie Brown!

We don't have the revenue to purchase costumes, props, and wigs for students to use in our performance. Students feel ownership for the play and characters when they have the necessary tools to become their characters. Costumes, props and wigs help them be the best actors they can be. Spike tape allows the technical theatre students to mark where actors stand and where the set should go on stage. Students use gaff tape to secure microphone and sound cables to the stage floor so no one trips. A Cricut machine allows students to design and create logos and merchandise to promote our performances.

All these tools will help students' social-emotional learning as they work together to create a musical, our first in two years.
