My students need a variety of books and science materials to help understand butterflies and the environment they live in, as well as iPads to research this information.
What can I say about my students? They are some of the best kids around! They are learning and growing in a very small rural community at the school I attended when I was their age. Being able to come back to the school I attended to help young children in my hometown has been very rewarding. They are learning a variety of different skills in addition to their academics. They learn daily living and independent skills to help them become more independent as they grow into adulthood.
These students deserve the world, and if I can give it to them, I will.
Despite any challenges they face, they work hard and always put forth 100% effort. As a teacher, I could not ask for a better and more deserving group of young adults to work with.
My Project
My students need materials to research and document the butterfly life cycle process. With the butterfly observatory, they will get to watch the entire process from caterpillar to butterfly. They will get to work hands-on discovering the environmental needs of caterpillars and what they need to change to butterflies. With the class set of books, they will get to read and study the cycle. Adding in magnetic pieces for the whiteboard and the blow up life cycle kit will allow them to see in a variety of ways a caterpillar comes to be. The use of the iPads would allow my students to work in groups to research the life cycle process as well as take photos to document the entire process. The iPad would also allow it to be an easier process for research, as the touch screen is more adaptive for all the children within the classroom.
My students would be in charge of their learning from beginning to end.
They would be able to research what butterflies need and how the environment affects those needs. They will then be able to read and see through the use of manipulatives the entire process. Finally after all the research, they will be able to watch the real life change. They will be able to care for help caterpillars become butterflies. They will be able to document the process of their caterpillar with the use of the camera on the iPad. They will then be able to complete a final project with their research and real life pictures.
