Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Title I school that has limited resources. My students come from households that are challenged financially and more than half are living at or below the poverty level. Our students receive free lunch, snack, and dinner. These children are being raised by their grandparents or other members, and/or single parent homes. These students need to learn to survive early on with very little. They certainly do not have what they want however, they may have little of what they need.
Making do with what they do get is nothing new.
My students appreciate it all.
My Project
I teach a dual language class- English and Spanish. This project will enhance all of our classroom oral speaking skills. I imagine using this speaker in a reading center where students will be able to read aloud in class, read to themselves, sing a song even to help boost their confidence. We sing and speak all day in both English and Spanish. This will be over the top and will make learning at it's the most fun! Having this available for students to use is a creative way to get a dialogue happening. We can read the words by singing them. Mind is blown! Their voices will be magnified! Think of how much fun and silliness this will allow our learning to be. Oh-and the confidence it will build "performing" for each other. FUN!
