What I love about my students is that they are so willing to try new things. They have a new music teacher and a new music program, but have accepted the challenges with excitement. They learn basic musicianship skills, but also valuable social skills like working with a partner or group, and leading the class.
Driving to our neighborhood school, you might think that most of the families can provide for their children with all that they need; the unfortunate truth is that many cannot.
Every student is provided with free breakfast, and a large percentage of students also receive free lunch. Although my students deal with hardships no child should have to go through, they are always doing their best, and I am lucky to get to share music with them everyday.
If you want to see students light up, show them what is possible with the Makey Makey, drawings, and music! They will discover the awesome collaboration that can happen when you combine art, music, and technology. These discoveries include things about music, about computers, and about electrical circuits. Imagine creating a beautiful artwork that is interactive or creating a dance that initiated music when you high-fived someone!
The possibilities are endless when it comes to music, art, and the Makey Makey!
I am so excited to bring these projects to my students! Not only because I am passionate about it, but because when asked if they would be interested in something like this, EVERY student in EVERY one of my classes raised their hand.
Thank you for helping my students use their imaginations as they explore the limitless possibilities of music!
