This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work with African American and Latino 11th and 12th graders, who are Moderately(MOID) and Mildly Intellectually Disabled(MID). There are also students with Specific Learning Disabled(SLD) and regular education students in my transition program. The MOID and MID will receive a non-traditional diploma when completing high school. The SLD and regular education students will graduate with a traditional diploma.
The students attend an inner city, Title I high school where everyone receives free breakfast and lunch.
The students are eager to learn but have experienced many set backs in their lives. They're looking for a place to belong, feel welcome and gain knowledge and real work experiences.
My Project
The students enrolled in the Career Technical Instruction program at our school will use the Circut and Big Shot Plus tools to design, create, sell, and deliver greeting cards to teachers and the community. The equipment will help students with disabilities gain work experience and career skills by creating products to sell to school and community. The equipment is safe and easy to use and will serve as great confidence-builders to help students be successful after graduation. Thus increasing our graduation rate for students with disabilities and providing them with real world word experiences that will last for ever.
