This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Science is a subject where hands on experience is highly needed. It is difficult to get that type of experience when you do not have the hands on materials to work with. My students do not have the same opportunities as other 5th grade students in other schools. I want to level the playing field.

My students are economically disadvantaged.

For most of them 5th grade is the first year they are being taught in all English. It is difficult for them to read and comprehend a Science English textbook. That's the reason why I teach them with hands on science experiments. I do not want language to be an obstacle in their learning of Science. I want them to explore and learn from the world around them.

My Project

In our classroom we need a triple beam balance. By having a triple beam balance my students will have the opportunity to measure the mass of different objects. It will help them get a better understanding of the difference between mass and weight. A triple beam balance is a necessary tool in our class.

Fifth grade is the first year students are tested in Science.

It is only fair for my students to have the same opportunities as the rest of the fifth graders in other schools. Any donation to our class will be greatly appreciated. Please help me in providing my students with the learning experiences they need to be successful.
