Last year our students finished first place in the Disney Planet Challenge science contest for all of Texas. We used the award to purchase science equipment but were unable to afford triple beam balances for our lab.
We are a small K-12 Charter School with a wonderful student population of eager learners.
The students love science and the lab work but we have struggled to provide the lab resources the students need. Many of our students learn best by hands on activities and science labs are one of the best ways we can engage their curiosity and stimulate their learning.
My Project
Measuring the mass or weight of objects is critical to many of our lab experiments. We have requested two Triple Beam Balances for our lab which will allow us to do this with a high degree of accuracy. Up to this point we have used a small postal scale and an old bathroom scale. It would be wonderful if the children could experience working with real lab equipment. This year we are planning much more lab time and the addition of these scales would be a big help.
These kids deserve the same opportunities for learning as the students in the larger, better funded school districts.
We are always on the lookout for creative ways to get them the supplies and equipment they need. Their performance in the Disney Planet Challenge last year shows that they can learn and compete at the highest levels. Thank you for considering our need.
