Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Our school's motto should be "Make a Way or Make a Way." I work directly with a variety of high-risk 6th and 7th graders as their science teacher and girls head athletic coach. Within those 80 students that lack the STEM opportunities others have, they have shown so much resilience in the classroom that it has prompted this campaign.

Last year, several of our students made it to the Central Texas Regionals Science Fair, without access to school technology.

I would like to see a blue ribbon next year, and having school technology will help that effort for my students. I truly believe with access to technology to a campus that isn't big enough to have a library will do WONDERS to their investigative minds.

We have parents that are committed and a staff beyond committed. These simple, and now common tools are not so common for the poor and urban schools. Please help us help these children.

My Project

These Samsung Galaxy Tablets will help with differentiation in the classroom. They can view 3D imagery instead of your standard book. Some students have difficulty writing but being able to type their thoughts brings on a sense of confidence. Students can watch videos in peace and take notes at their own pace. The interactive abilities will keep students engaged while learning key TEK concepts. Students will learn research techniques and understand what "scholarly" means and the importance of finding true and accurate information. The tools on these tablets can lead to entrepreneurial admirations! The opportunities are endless with access to the web.
