As a teacher, there is nothing more rewarding than watching a struggling reader make a connection with a special book! My students all have unique skills and abilities, but they have one thing in common- they all struggle with reading. As a special education teacher, I primarily service students with learning disabilities. I also provide support to non-special education students who have fallen behind. My students work very hard to try to close the gap between their reading abilities and that of their peers.
Our area consists of a large military population.
Not only do these students strive to meet their academic challenges, but many of them deal with the challenges of being a military family, such as frequent moves and deployments. I try to create a warm, safe space for these students to feel confident in their abilities and to grow not only as readers, but as the special people they are.
My Project
I chose an engaging flower-shaped table with a dry-erase top to use during my reading intervention classes. This table will accommodate my small groups perfectly! Due to our rapidly growing population, our school has added several new classrooms this year. In order to accommodate these additional classrooms, furniture from many existing classrooms has been given a new home.
I am in great need of a table to hold my guided reading groups.
Students will use this table to enjoy good books, respond to reading, do word work, and lots of engaging reading activities. By donating you will enable us to have the perfect space to foster the love of reading!
