My students are bored with the books in our leveled library. They are out of date and in very worn condition. My students would be thrilled to receive new books that are catered to their interests.
The school that I teach in is an inner city school.
The students who attend the school are low income and live in the housing projects that surround the school. The students that you would be helping are Special Needs students in grades Kindergarten, First and Second. These students have various learning and emotional disabilities. Most of them come from broken families who find stability and a sense of security at school. They are a wonderful group of students who are eager to learn and exciting about about going to school everyday.
My Project
I am asking for books for my classrooms leveled library. The books that I currently have in my library are in poor condition. They are old books that are outdated and uninteresting to my students. Most of my students only opportunity to read books is at school. I want to surround these underprivileged children with books that they will enjoy and be exciting about reading. I chose specific books that I know my students will enjoy and that will peak their interest.
This project is so important because by donating to my project you will be exposing young, impressionable readers to new books that they wouldn't otherwise have the opportunity to read.
