Young Minds on the Move: Flexible Seating and Books
Help me give my students materials for lifelong learning success in reading. These books and flexible seating options will help them engage more deeply in their own learning. Comfortable students make happier students.
Our school is located in the foothills. Families and teachers work together to build a community where all children will learn and succeed.
My kindergarten/first-grade class is made up of 26 unique, enthusiastic learners with varied backgrounds and exposure to books and school.
The reading levels of the children vary from a beginning pre-reader level to second-grade level so we need many different types of fiction and nonfiction to meet all the needs. I am constantly looking for new materials to increase each child's independent reading level. I also want to engage them in more focused work and flexible seating allows them to engage at a deeper level when they are comfortable.
They read throughout our day and need books to practice their strategies and comfortable spaces to sit. This project will help them on their journey to becoming fluent, life-long readers. They also need to nurture their brains with critical thinking and comprehension.
My Project
Through flexible seating, our young children develop their core muscles and have the chance to be comfortable as their minds work hard each day. They need opportunities to move about and engage in conversation and collaboration with their peers.
Flexible seating is crucial in today's classrooms.
Leveled books help them develop their reading skills at their own unique level. Flexible seating develops deeper engagement as they develop their reading skills. It also allows for book discussions and collaboration to help make meaning and further comprehension of what they read. I want to provide the best learning opportunities for my students.
