This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are hard workers. Many of them come from tough home lives and school is their safe zone. Memphis is one of the poorest cities in America and these students come from the poorer parts of the city. Several students have to help raise their younger siblings and in many cases raise themselves.
My students strive hard to better their lives with success at school.
Their goal is to be able to get into college and be successful citizens!
My Project
My young students aspire to be great athletes. We just started our basketball team last year and only were able to play against each other since for many of my kids it was their first time playing organized sports. This year we plan to join our first basketball league.
Our own portable basketball goal will allow us to practice at our school rather than having to walk half a mile down a very busy street during rush hour to a local church gym to practice.
In addition to a basketball hoop to practice on, we're simply looking to get some basketballs and an air pump. We will be using this equipment for every practice to help build our young athlete's skills.
