My Students

Our class is a great group of first graders in Muskegon, Michigan. They are learning to read every day and they get excited about reading and books. They consider themselves good readers even before they are fluent readers.

Reading a chapter book or carrying around a big science book is the cool thing to do in first grade.

They want people to think of them as readers

They see themselves as readers and want others to see them as readers too even before they know all the words. Every day they inspire me to be a better teacher and to teach them to not only be the best reader they can but to love books!

My Project

There are so many things in our world to learn about. Young children have eager and creative minds. They want to learn about what is happening in their world and to learn about the world they live in. It is hard to find non-fiction material for my students that is at their reading level. These weekly publications will do just that by providing a fun and easy way for them to read on their own about the world around them. Our class can then have discussions about what we have read with the fun microphone ball that projects their voice during discussions so the entire class can hear!
