This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My Kindergarten through 3rd-grade scientists attend a high-poverty school in Wisconsin. I am extremely fortunate to be their elementary science teacher, and I am the only science teacher in our district for this age group. Our school has a new lab, and the students go two times a week to participate in hands-on activities that explore life, earth, and physical sciences. They are also involved in STEM activities that explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. They are excited and eager to learn, and one day they may become scientists themselves.
My Project
Our Science Lab is full of exciting things to learn. Insects teach so much about the world around us such as life cycles, teamwork, and interdepence. The students already enjoy pointing out a stray ant on the floor of the classroom or telling about an insect story they read in their classroom. With the Insects & Spiders Magnetic Activity Tin, my young entomologists will learn about the difference between spiders and insects. The Insects Specimen Set will allow the students to see specimens of real insects and learn about insect body parts. The Bugs & Insects Instant Learning Center will teach them the names of different types of insects. The Crayola paint and clay will integrate science with art by allowing the students to make their own insect and label its parts.
